Everything You Need

Read through before applying. Sections are updated as new topics arise.

Match Format

First to 3 wins in a row takes a set. First to 3 sets wins the match. Semi-finals: first to 4 sets. Finals: first to 5 sets.

  • Matches held over Discord calls, streamed live to YouTube
  • You must provide your own judge to time inspection (visible to camera)
  • Double elimination bracket — 16 contestants seeded by qualifying Ao12 and WCA results
  • A coin toss determines who starts the first set; sets alternate after that

During a Solve

After a scramble, players must immediately cover the cube with a lid. A volunteer judge sends the scramble via private message, verifies it, measures inspection, checks correctness, and records the score.

  • Inspection is measured from when the lid is removed until hands leave the timer
  • You may measure inspection yourself via cable/Bluetooth — start before uncovering
  • Inspection time must remain visible to the camera at all times
  • A two-handed timer is permitted (not from a phone or computer)

Disputes & Judgement

When the referee disagrees with a player, the final decision is consulted with an independent referee familiar with WCA rules who is not participating.

  • Discussion with judge/organizer is allowed but doesn't guarantee a reversal
  • If a judge error occurs, the routine is repeated for both competitors
  • WCA rules apply wherever possible unless otherwise stated here

Scheduling & Attendance

  • Match dates are agreed upon via private message
  • Each competitor must acknowledge the match may be commented on or streamed
  • No-show or departure results in DNS records from the moment of absence
  • The other competitor may, but is not obligated to, continue their routine

Equipment & Conduct

  • Any equipment or connection fault is the competitor's own responsibility
  • Attempting to circumvent rules results in immediate disqualification
  • Disrespecting or disrupting another competitor results in disqualification
  • The organizer reserves the right to add rules at any time

Camera Setup

  • We encourage an over-the-shoulder view of your solves
  • Make sure your setup is sturdy — a falling camera is not grounds for a re-solve
  • The camera must focus on the cube and keep it clearly visible throughout
  • Do not stop mid-solve to adjust the camera — this results in an immediate DNF

Post-Match & Integrity

  • After the matchup, a camera facing you may be needed for a post-match interview

⚠ There must be absolutely no editing or cuts in any recordings. Unedited, continuous footage only.

Cube Choice

You may use any Skewb of your choice. Lubrication and modification are permitted as long as the cube remains WCA legal. Unsure? Contact us and we'll verify.

Lubrication & Swapping

  • You may NOT lubricate or adjust mid-set
  • Lubrication is allowed between sets
  • You may change your Skewb after every solve

⚠ Exception: If your Skewb breaks (not pops) mid-round and cannot be turned, you may switch cubes.

Timers

We strongly encourage official Stackmat timers used in current WCA competitions. Alternatives must function similarly.

⚠ Timer software applications are NOT allowed under any circumstances.

Mats & Cameras

  • Cubing mats are required — ensures fairness and prevents hardware damage
  • Any camera that works for your setup is allowed; GoPros are recommended
  • A screen must NOT face you during solves to prevent unfair advantages
